A Twin Air Mattress Solved My Family’s Problems—and Saved my Sanity!
It might seem like an exaggeration to say a twin air mattress saved my sanity but that’s exactly what happened!
We live in a small, 3-bedroom apartment. After my son was born, I began to work from home. Well, that meant that one room became his nursery, and the guest room became my office, filling our apartment to capacity in one fell swoop!
Things got tricky once my husband’s mother decided she wanted to visit us. Don’t get me wrong, I love Mary, but the thought of having one more adult in our tiny space, with a newborn baby, made me crazy. I wanted her to stay in a hotel, but my husband thought she would get her feelings hurt if we suggested that.
There was really no solution that I could see! We didn’t have a guest room, and I couldn’t put her on the couch, much less on a sleeping bag on the floor. My husband and I were stalemated on the issue, and getting cross with each other.
My brilliant best friend finally suggested that we get an air mattress for her to sleep on, and put it in the office. Of course! I had completely forgotten that an inflatable air mattress would be an inexpensive temporary solution. I researched my options.
I first had to choose the size. Since we primarily only wanted it for Mary, and a queen or king-size would be too large to fit in the office, we got a twin air mattress. I made sure that it would be long enough, too. Mary is petite like me, so it wasn’t a huge concern but I did make sure the dimension was reasonably long enough.
Next I had to contemplate the price. This was tricky for me, as we are trying to keep expenses down. Fortunately, even the most expensive models are not too costly. It appears that the average range in price is from $20 to $100 for a twin air mattress. (With larger sizes higher in price.) We decided to splurge on one of the pricier models.
I did give some thought to features and aesthetics. For inflating the mattress, I wanted an electric pump, or a battery-powered pump, as opposed to a hand pump, which seemed like it would take a long time to inflate. Another feature I noticed on many twin air mattresses was a built-in pillow, which I decided to forego as I thought Mary might prefer a feather pillow instead. I also looked at the colors, which won’t matter when the bed is made up with bedding, but might matter if I decide to use it uncovered. I chose a twin air mattress in a lovely shade of light blue.
When Mary arrived, I was optimistic, but nervous that she might not be comfortable. Well, not only did she sleep extremely well on the twin air mattress, but she asked if we could put her in the baby’s room instead of the office. Naturally this worked fine for me, as I could keep the office all to myself!! I had totally forgotten how convenient it would be to have a mattress you could move around on a whim.
So this has turned out to be a really neat solution for us, and I’m not kidding when I say it prevented a potential family crisis! I highly recommend a twin air mattress for anyone who needs to solve their living space problems and keep family members happy at the same time.
